Haile Gebrselassie, the Ethiopian world record holder marathon runner, will make his ING New York City Marathon debut this fall. Gebrselassie made the announcement Wednesday while taking part in the New York Road Runners fun run at Randall's Island in celebration of National Running Day. “Someday someone will ask me, ‘Did you win New York City?’ If I don’t run New York, then my career cannot be complete,” Gebrselassie told New York Road Runners. The last time Gebrselassie competed in New York City the outcome was not that successful, the 2:03:59 marathoner had to drop out of the Manhattan Half-Marathon due to an asthma attack.
