The country’s main opposition leader Birtukan Midekssa reunited with her family on Wednesday after a government pardon put an end to her “very difficult and dreadful” jail term since December 2008. The international community has welcomed the release of Birtukan. “Ethiopian opposition leader is free!” twitted European Member of Parliament Thijs Berman who was chief observer of the EU mission deployed to observe Ethiopia’s May polls.
